The no-flash option on my camera makes the snowflakes look like streamers. I’m not sure if I’m celebrating tonight, though.
September is quickly coming to an end, and one of the great things about fall is the arrival of apples ripe for the picking. Apple Ridge Orchard has long been my family’s favorite place (and ONLY place) to go apple picking, and this morning was a perfect fall day to go. Located in Mazeppa, MN, the trip from my hometown makes for a very nice drive, especially since the leaves have begun changing color…I’m hoping for some nice bright reds and oranges this year…
There’s a store that sells pre-picked apples, cider, caramel apples, pumpkins, preserves…they used to have an old-fashioned donut-making machine that would spit out mini cinnamon-apple donuts too…unfortunately, that’s been missing in action for a while now… But there’s always been a tractor that takes people up into the orchards…that’s pretty classic…
Haystacks on the front porch, complete w/ scarecrows…
A nicely stocked supply of apple butter…this is one of my favorite items to take home w/ me each year when we visit…it goes real nice spread over toast in the mornings…
In the back sits this conveyor belt that spits out apple bits…my curiosity got the better of me and so I decided to take a closer look…
I remember when I first arrived at college out east. People around me would always get so wide-eyed and excited over the prospect of going apple-picking…and I’d sit there and think, what’s the big deal? Just another thing I guess I’ve always taken for granted…
Happened upon this curious little fellow this evening on my sister’s college campus. Definitely not something you come across on a normal day-to-day basis…at least in that fur color with pink eyes to match…
His presence is well documented in these neck of the woods.
Len Druskin is an Edina-based retailer that attempts to fill the void that is upscale shopping in Minnesota. It makes sense that they first set up shop in what has historically been the wealthiest suburb in Minnesota, they now also operate a mens post in downtown Minneapolis, as well as an outlet store back in Edina in the Southdale Mall.
Their website uses words like “eclectic” to describe their inventory…and that is true to word. One one end, you’ll find bawdy labels like Rock & Republic, but you’ll also come across truly special finds like Rag & Bone. At any of their locations, you sometimes have to do a little digging…
I don’t normally take on outlet shopping of any kind, especially here in Minnesota. But today I found myself at the Southdale Mall and on a whim, decided to check out what was being offered at their outlet, which boasts markdowns from 50-90% off. I came out with a Rogues Gallery short-sleeve summer button down — from the looks of it…last season — that was marked down 90% to $6.90! This Portland, ME – based label is one of my favorites, and truth be told, I didn’t realize it was stocked at Len’s… Definitely the cheapest I’ve ever paid for a piece from Rogues Gallery.
